Vintage Schultz and Dooley Steins 2nd Edition

Vintage pair of Schultz & Dooley Character Steins for Utica Club Beer. Impressed "Webco Made in Germany" and stamped "Schmetzer Inc. Selected Imports New York". They measure 11 1/2" for Schultz and Dooley measures about 7" tall. Dooley had a fall years ago and was glued back together :( still functional and can probably be repaired more professionally by the right person.

These are the 2nd edition steins. Only the 5,000 1959 1st edition steins included writing under the stein handles. They were promotional items primarily given to vendors of Utica Club beer. The characters were so popular at the time, the brewery gave Schmetzer, Inc. permission to sell the Schultz & Dooley steins in departments stores such as Subleys in Rochester and Syracuse, and Henegerers in Buffalo. Schmetzer was the importer for all 10,000 2nd edition sets from 1960 to 1964, only the 1960 batch bore the importers' name.
