The original block print image(s) was presented in three panels, a triptych. The composition of fisherwomen who dive for abalone is among the most well known triptychs in all of Ukiyo-e (a genre of Japanese art). Kitagawa Utamaro was a renowned Japanese printmaker and painter born in 1753 in Yoshiwara, Edo (present-day Tokyo). Kitagawa made block prints referred to by the Japanese as pictures that float on air.
This reproduction is matted & framed, ready to hang.
Labelled on the with the artist’s history & description of the imagery. Made in Japan by Ucida Art Co. LTD.
