We knew when we purchased it was an authentic Robert Emmett Owen but we had to be 100% sure. We opened the back just to be sure that it was indeed an original pencil sketch by Robert Emmett Owen and not a print. What we found written on the back makes it just about the rarest piece of artwork by Owen. We verified that it was a pencil drawing by using a cotton swab to lightly run over the surface. The backside of sketch reads: First Newsboy "My Dad is a big gun." 2nd " "Yes I can see he is always loaded." (Sketches from Life) R. Emmett Owen Eric Pepe School of Art Farragal(?) Bldg.
