– About the Design
SAARI (meaning "small island" in Finnish).
Designer Aoi Yoshizawa was inspired by her days spent on Harakka Island, a small island near Helsinki, where her atelier is located.
The environment, surrounded by rich nature and the sea, allows one to feel the changing seasons and beauty up close, while also facing the harshness of bad weather and cold.
It seems that on the boat to the island, she sometimes gets soaked in the rain. Including such experiences, Yoshizawa says that working here gives her a feeling of becoming a part of nature, and she can discover beautiful color combinations and textures.
SAARI was drawn with inspiration from the straight southern horizon that Yoshizawa sees from her favorite place on Harakka. The complex weave, unevenness, and irregular texture, born to faithfully express Yoshizawa's design, are due to the technology of Lapuan Kankurit. When the textile is spread out, it's as if the ripples and clear air spread throughout the space.
