The following is a quote from El Sur Records' commentary:
A true trickster! This is a musician who freely navigates various styles of Yoruba-influenced Nigerian music – Dundun music / Afrobeat / Juju / Fuji / Highlife – as well as genres like jazz and hip-hop. No one has ever seen the true face of this masked saxophonist, vocalist, percussionist, and singer-songwriter, Lagbaja. Two items from 2009 are being released simultaneously! Since the previous work was from 2005, it's been four years, and as always, the output is limited, but the enthusiasm is palpable!
"SHARP SHARP!" is on the left, and "PARADISE" is on the right – various ideas are intertwined in a mosaic, and listening to both works at once will really scramble your brain. What does he want to do? What is he doing? It's hard to tell! Unorganized, intermittent, twisted, and full of laughter – as always, his musicality is mysterious, with a raspy low vocal, soaring saxophone, heavy Dundun, adult blues, cute female chorus, vocals like Yuutadan, and even salsa! Even so, Lagbaja's style of Dundun music-style Afrobeat suite in the second half of "Sharp Sharp," and the upbeat Dundun Afrobeat in the second track of "Paradise" are amazing! There's no other African musician this mysterious right now, ignoring Western listeners! Not pandering, and yet, ultimately POP!
