This is a Byzantine bronze half follis (denomination) coin of Justin II (Justin the Younger) and Sophia, minted between 565 and 578 AD. More specifically, this example was minted in the 10th year of Justin's reign, or 574-575 AD. The date is written to the right and left of the K on the back. It reads ANNO X, or Year 10. The K indicates the denomination. It stands for the number 20 (for 20 nummi - nummi were the smallest unit of Byzantine currency). The 20 nummi coin was called a 'half follis.' This was the second largest bronze Byzantine coin. Minted in Constantinople
